At the northern end of Abiquiu lies a red rock formation known as Echo Amphitheater, which inspired this painting. The scale of the arch seems unfathomably large, but also suggests that in earlier times it served as a shelter or habitation. The spirit of earlier visitors pervades the scene. This painting was shown at my 2013 solo exhibition at Pippin Contemporary in Santa Fe, and in 2015 it was awarded Third Prize in the Standard Size Paintings Division at MasterWorks of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
